In 2025, a network of six double-chamber bat boxes was installed at Caterpillar’s facilities in Málaga. The project combines installation, box inspections and outreach activities to observe how these spaces are used over time.
What we have done
We selected the locations and installed the six boxes in trees with specialist support. During the first documented inspection, in October 2025, all were in good condition; no bats or signs of use were observed during that visit.
Monitoring and interpretation
Subsequent inspections distinguish direct observations of bats from signs that might indicate exploration or use. These signs are interpreted cautiously: a mark in a box does not, on its own, confirm stable occupancy. Monitoring continues, and the results of each visit must be understood in relation to its date and method.
Sharing the project
In March 2026, an environmental event included a talk, a virtual reality experience and an interpretive walk. It introduced people at the centre to the work with bats.
