Bat boxes integrated into Málaga TechPark
The bat box network in the green spaces of Málaga TechPark.

← All projects

At Málaga TechPark, we monitor a network of eight bat boxes through non-invasive inspections and walks with ultrasonic detectors to study how bats use the green spaces.

August 2026 inspection

All eight boxes were in good condition. One was directly occupied and two others showed signs of use: three boxes with confirmed presence or evidence of use, including the occupied box. The monitoring described recorded 51 georeferenced acoustic records.

Interpretation

A Pipistrellus individual was confirmed in one box. Acoustic records represent activity, not a count of individuals, and automatic species identifications require expert review.

Continuing the work

Keeping locations and protocols consistent allows subsequent inspections to be compared and changes in the network to be assessed without disturbing the roosts.
