Fieldwork and results
At SELWO Aventura in Estepona, together with Fundación Parques Reunidos, we monitor 15 bat boxes and analyse ultrasonic recordings. Across four complete nights in May 2026, 8,160 acoustic passes were validated, including 1,005 feeding buzzes, with at least nine acoustic species or taxa detected.
How to read the figures
Passes measure recorded activity, not the number of individual bats. A Pipistrellus bat was directly confirmed in one box in February 2026. Continued inspections distinguish confirmed occupation from indirect signs of use.
